Lifestyle tips for students and researchers

A healthy lifestyle is important both for researchers and ordinary people. Check up some useful tips how to stay fit even despite many stresses and barely any free time.

Lifestyle as a psychological term

According to Alfred Adler, a well-known psychologist, and creator of his own psychoanalytic concept, lifestyle is a unique combination of traits, behaviors, and habits which altogether reflect a unique picture of human existence. Furthermore, this scientist believed that a stable “image” usually needs several years to form. Later in adulthood, it is possible to find new ways of expressing lifestyle, but, by and large, life priorities and perceptions of life itself will depend on the "seven-year-old" image

Unfortunately, most of the students do experience problems in almost all spheres of their life. Irregular schedules, tight budgets, long distances between universities and homes are definitely not the factors which are going to improve the students’ lives or at least keep them in a more or less satisfactory physical shape. What’s the solution then? Here are some lifestyle rules you should follow in order to protect your health and improve your stamina during these difficult years of being a student.

11 rules for a student to lead a healthy lifestyle in unhealthy circumstances

1. Don’t study too late at night. Well, you can make some exclusion for unavoidable circumstances, but not more often, than once in a year. Being a “night owl” reduces your immunity level and makes you a poor stress soldier. Never underestimate good sleep: these 8 hours you usually spend in bed may seem useless, but they will definitely make you more cheerful and comforted. Plan your most “dangerous” due dates in advance so that you avoid all-night studying at least partially.

2. Eat healthily. Avoid processed food or meals that consist of more than five ingredients. Never omit your food intakes and, certainly, don’t forget about vitamins in winter and spring. Besides, if you cook healthy dishes for yourself and almost never order food in restaurants, your financial situation will improve tremendously.

3. Eat as simply as you can. Try to begin your day with 4 spoonfuls of oatmeal, filled with boiling water. No sugar, no dairy. Bake meat and vegetables in the sleeve. The less time you spend on cooking, the more time you devote, for instance, to your research paper.

4. Try to stay fit for as long as it’s possible. Go to the gym at least three times a week, and if it’s hard for you to motivate yourself, ask your friends to join you and give you some motivation. All together makes it better, as they say.

5. Try to manage your stress. If stress or anxiety takes too much place and time in your daily life, look into visiting a good psychotherapist.

6. Impose restrictions on some of your most favorite pleasures. For example, limit your Facebook surfing to just 40 minutes a day. If you are a researcher, visit the site Dissertation Labs instead. Methodology writing is the doctrine of methods and strategies for researching an object. Not a single research paper can be written without knowing the methodology.

7. You need to do something important at first. Of course, Reading, replies to e-mail important. But the main thing is often forgotten here. Without any doubt, each of us has a dream, for which we must take steps: every day one tiny one.

8. Get rid of this trash. Delete old files and folders from your computer and old letters from your e-mail box.

9. Be Minimalist. If you haven’t worn an item of clothing for a year – you’re hardly ever going to wear it now, so here is a wonderful opportunity to throw such a customer away. The less clothes you have, the more time and space you save.

10. Enjoy this very moment. When starting something, plan the result of it in advance. You will simply enjoy the process, its every step that is made towards the dream. As long as we're alive, we can survive.

11. Ask the graduate students of your university what exact things made them suffer and struggle during their university lives. Maybe they worked full- or a part-time during the process of studying and could hardly cope. Maybe, they had not enough sleep, and maybe it was even bullying experience. This would be a good example how careful you should be among unfamiliar people. It’s essential to live the life to its fullest outside of the study. If you keep everything in harmony, this skill will help you be a success. Moreover, it will keep your chronic health issues (if any) at bay.

This list can be endless, but here are at least the main things you should remember in order to lead a healthy lifestyle as a college student or researcher. We hope that the tips and insights on student lifestyle will be useful for you. Feel free to implement them and see how your life will change for better. Best of luck!
